Membership Categories and Dues

Full time employees.

These are individuals currently employed to work directly in housing co-operatives or other non-profit housing providers for a total of 32 hours per week or more. They may be employed directly by housing providers or by organizations that provide services to housing providers. They are full members.

Part time employees.

These are individuals currently employed to work directly in housing co-operatives or other non-profit housing providers for a total of less than 32 hours per week or more. They may be employed directly by housing providers or by organizations that provide services to housing providers. They are full members.

Unemployed and retired members.

These are individuals who have worked in co-operative or non-profit housing, but are not currently working. If they resume working, they are expected to pay dues according the number of hours they work. They are full members.

Employees of sector organizations

These are individuals who work for organizations that provide services to co-operatives or non-profits, but who do not work directly in housing co-operatives. Their organizations must be members of the their local co-operative housing federation or the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada. They receive the member reduction for services provided by CoAction, but are not considered voting members of the Co-operative.

Supporting members

These are individuals and organizations that provide support to CoAction. They do not receive any membership privileges, but we recognize their contribution in our outreach materials.

Honorary members.

The Board of Directors may grant honorary membership to persons who the Board believes have made a significant contribution to the co-operative. Those who have been granted honorary membership will not be given the responsibilities or rights granted to other classes of members as defined by Article 2.01(c). They have the right to attend and speak at meetings of the co-operative.
